A vast majority of the homes here in Sun Valley, Idaho are affluent vacation getaways. Often times these residences fall behind the times when it comes to the interior design elements. Many opt for a traditional, timeless cabin feel to avoid constant changes while others look to step out of the box to keep a contemporary alignment.
Massey Glenne, an interior designer for The Picket Fence, recently completed a bedroom and bathroom yearning for an update. Massey explains that her client, “wanted a youthful yet sophisticated approach. The rest of the house screams Sun Valley and being a New Yorker in her 20′s she wanted her room to have a more contemporary feel. We started with a white clean palette, combining color and textures with a strong emphasis on the color blue.”

Q & A with Massey

When asked what the leading concept behind the bathroom was, Massey details that the steam shower took center stage for the project. Tiling also played an important role in making the steam shower pop. Looking for something different, the client wanted to find “tiles with big circles.” However, when Massey came across these penny round royal blue tile, they knew it was the one.

”To give the small bathroom a bigger feel a large glass door was used for the shower along with a beveled mirror expanding the sink wall. Satin nickel finishes in the shower, hardware, and sconces give the room modern influences. Tones of grays were added to complement the blue color palette used in the tile and cabinetry – 2 styles of grey textured shower tile, light grey walls, and the quartz counter top with speckles of light grays, dark grays, with hints of blue.” – Massey Glenne
