Gorky Gonzalez Pottery
Gorky Gonzalez, founder and artistic director of Alfareria Tradicional began his studies under his father, the sculptor Rodolfo Gonzalez. Gorky built an artistic foundry in San Miguel Allende, founded a pottery workshop in Guanajuato, and has also studied pottery in Japan under the artists Tsuji Seimei and Kei Fijiwara, considered two of Japan’s living treasures. Since his return from Japan, Gorky has devoted himself to the preservation of the traditional Majolica technique utilizing the original designs from the colonial period. All Gorky Gonzalez pieces are handmade and hand painted; they do no use decals or mass production techniques. Accordingly, each piece is a work of art, reflecting the artisan who made it. Their pieces are food safe, and use glazes that are lead and cadmium free. They pride themselves in delivering quality guaranteed products to customers throughout the world.
