The Difference Between Candles and Scent Diffusers

Candles and scent diffusers are the best way to infuse your room with fragrance. While room sprays offer a much more temporary scent, candles and diffusers will allow a fragrance to stay present in a space for a much longer time. To determine which one is best for your home we will delve into the difference between candles and scent diffusers. Candles and scent diffusers offer fragrance but they differ in their intention and application. What you choose probably differs room to room or by the time of day or both.

DIFFUSERS

Let’s begin with scent diffusers and how they work. Basically, a scent diffuser is made of three key pieces: fragranced oil, reeds and a vessel with a narrow opening that holds a liquid. The reeds protrude through the container’s opening and the fragranced oil is absorbed and dispersed. The bigger the vessel and reeds, the stronger the scent and the larger the room it can handle. If you want more fragrance—or less for that matter—the more frequently the reeds are flipped over, the quicker the oil becomes absorbed and dispersed.

CANDLES

A candle impacts the ambiance of a room on multiple levels. Fire is more than simply visually interesting, it is captivating and one of a candle’s greatest attributes is the added benefit of being a fire without all the soot and smoke. Candles offer a variety of scents, in all types of colors and sizes, but a candle invokes a dancing light and shadow that only a fire can produce. Scent diffusers function as visually interesting home decor and dispense inviting fragrances and while a diffuser’s fragrance is available as long as the oil is full, a candle’s fragrance may fade after several hours of burning.

If you want to take this to the next level, try mixing diffusers with candles and even pairing different scents together for layers of possibility.
