Around Sun Valley
The Trailing of the Shep Festival
October 11 - 14, 2012 marks the annual Trailing of the Sheep Festival that is held in Ketchum, Idaho. A long time tradition, sheep herding has been an important way of life since the 1860's, when the first sheep was thought to be brought into the Valley. A great history can be found on the Trailing of the Sheep website. Events with local eateries, parades, sheep dog trials and other activities will be going on throughout Ketchum, Sun Valley and Bellevue. A schedule can be found here. Try out lamb-based dishes at almost every restaurant in the Valley during this fun festival. Check here for the Ketchum and Hailey eateries that will be participating this year.
Because sheep herding in Idaho goes hand-in-hand with the Basque culture, there will also be Basque dancing performed by the Oinkari Basque Dancers.
Also, Cava Cava, Ketchum's newest restuarant, will have guest chefs from Leku Ona, a fine Basque restaurant in Boise, manning the kitchens Saturday night creating authentic Basque-style Family dinners. Seating is at 6:30 and 8:00 p.m. with limited availability.
Here is a map of what will be going on around town.
You won't want to miss this fun-filled weekend that is perfect for the whole family.
